2009 Outlook for the IT industry
So what is the outlook for the IT industry in 2009?
IT, as in all other recent recessions, has been the saviour of many Financial Directors. Effective use of IT systems has enabled them to slash costs and automate previously laborious tasks. Long gone are the days where each invoice has to be individually typed with carbon copies, before being sent.
IT is no longer a nice add-on – It’s a key part of the fabric of every successful business!
In our experience, Developers, Analyst Programmers, Software Engineer contractors and permanent staff are still in high demand. Companies are feverishly putting together new versions of their software. Interestingly, many are pushing their new releases out as soon as possible; so they can cease to support older versions and thus force the purchase of new software. This is a jump in thinking, from the old idea of; “if it's not broke don't fix it” to “it needs to be replaced before it breaks!”
Good IT Infrastructure and IT Support contractors and permanent staff will also be in high demand. There’s the forced roll out of software as mentioned above, plus whatever Microsoft may force upon us, as well as the release of Windows 7. We also anticipate a growth in the number of mergers and acquisitions; with all the IT infrastructure issues that brings.
IT Management and staff will be stretched, meaning your time has to be prioritised and ensured that it is not wasted. As such, IT will remain an industry with a skills shortage. This shortage needs to be handled correctly, with IT recruitment being such a specialist area and potentially extremely time-consuming.
Now in our 10th year, Langley James can assist you with all your recruitment challenges, saving you valuable time. Whether you need a contractor or a permanent person, we are here to help!
