    Good news at last is that the Recruitment Market is not showing any further sign decline, still there is a spluttering of redundancies but nothing compared to a few months ago

    Since the beginning of November promising results of two surveys have been released;

    The REC and KPMG Monthly Employer Tracking Survey - The latest Recruitment and Employment Confederation survey has highlighted a third consecutive month of growth in both permanent placements and contractors during October. Furthermore, the latest expansions were the sharpest in two years and 16 months respectively.
    The REC report can be downloaded from

    The quarterly CIPD and KPMG Labour Market Outlook (LMO) report
    The survey of more than 700 employers reports that the job market will deteriorate less slowly in the final quarter of 2009 than at any time since the start of the recession in spring 2008. It also states that 77% intend to recruit in London and 54% in the North West. The CIPD report can be obtained form the CIPD.

    At Langley James IT Recruitment we have found that the amount of candidates proactively looking for new work is still at it's lowest especially those that are in employment. It seems the good candidates that were made redundant have now been snapped up and most people within employment are presently very cautious about making a move, choosing to stay put for the time being.

    IT Support & Infrastructure - We have had an increase of requirements in this area with a common trait being from companies that had been running departments that had been short staffed for some time, none of the vacancies were for newly created roles, the last time that was experienced a newly created IT Support role was in August.

    Graduates & Junior Developers - We are receiving an unprecedented amount of vacancies for Graduates and Junior Developers especially requiring .Net C# or VB.Net with database skills, we have noticed this from both end users and IT Service Companies with SME clients. This again highlights the skills shortage within IT and with the amount of University entrants taking IT Software Engineering courses dropping again there seem no signs of change in the future.

    Business Analysts & Project Managers - This area has remained constant, with a common trait being the request to liaise with overseas 3rd party suppliers especially within Application Development.

    Short Term Contractors - While demand for Contractors increased again following September’s slight gain, it is still an excellent time to get top quality contractors to undertake Projects especially within infrastructure.
