DO NOT RESIGN (unless you have a role to go to)

The permanent IT Job market has steadily increased since the latter part of last year, there are more vacancies, and redundancies have dramatically slowed. The best of candidates have been snapped up and those not so good have gone off to pastures new. Contractors are still trying to convince us (and themselves) that they have seen the light and now want to become permanent employees (well at least until the market picks up!) and the majority of candidates registering in the South East are from the public sector.

At present on a daily basis I receive at least one call a day from Managers telling me they are considering resigning for a multitude of reasons, Please consider this before taking such drastic action. Management positions have been the main casualty of redundancies in the past 2 years. When I advertise an IT Manager vacancy in London I often receive in excess of 200 applications within 24 hours, in such a competitive market do consider how difficult it may be to find another Management role before resigning no matter how bad it is.

In addition be aware of some SCAMS that are being carried out by some less scrupulous Recruiters. I have been made aware that some individuals and organisations are contacting Managers (IT and non IT) that are seeking new roles and advising them that their CV should be rewritten at a cost of £300+ in order to optimise their job search. Whilst there are bona fide companies that will offer to professionally write your CV do consider that they will most likely produce a generic version that may not be suitable for every vacancy, a successful CV is a tailored CV. When an advertised job vacancy seems very generic without specifics you should question “ Does the role actually exist?”.

If you would like me to review your CV please contact me I am always willing to do a quick review free of charge for IT Manager’s

If you are recruiting and finding it difficult to find suitable candidates we at Langley James have been recruiting for 10 years using the usual tools and methods, in addition since we have been established we have built our own in house database of over 70,000 IT professionals in the South East area from which we can identify and entice (headhunt) the right candidate for you, either directly or indirectly
