Ten ideas to motivate your team

When the going gets tough, as in the present 'economic downturn,' staff morale can be one of the first things to suffer. Here are ten easy ways to improve staff morale and boost their motivation:

Awards

Introduce awards - With certificates or inexpensive trophies.

Birthdays

Introduce an extra day off for birthdays. Send birthday cards on their special day and congratulation cards when they achieve either a personal or a business success.

Message of the Day

When people first turn on their computers, have a message of the day. Such as a quotation, something humorous or inspirational.

Plants

Introduce plants; chosen by staff and have them named and adopted.

Ergonomics

Offer foot rests and lumbar support cushions, it is hard to feel motivated when you're uncomfortable.

Dress up Friday

This can be based on a theme; perhaps a favourite film or era. Also, let your team decide.

Regular Feedback

Provide feedback on a regular basis, so everyone is aware of overall performance.

Praise

Give regular praise and compliments - And remember, always praise in public.

Comments Box

Ask your staff for any suggestions they have, to improve their working environment. This is a great way to show your staff you value their opinions, it is also an excellent way to find new ideas.

Duvet Day
A day when an employee has the right to have a day off instead of going into work, with no prior booking required.
