Attracting Good Employees
A challenge that employers currently face is finding talented employees to join their companies “Better the Devil you know” is an appropriate line at present to summarise the attitude of candidates who are currently employed but you may need in your company.
So how can you attract skilled and competent candidates to leave their existing employer and work for you?
Offer a good basic salary
They say that “Money is not everything “but we cannot deny the fact that this is an important factor when it comes to attracting good employees. Top achievers know their worth and they will seek a job that rewards their experience and ability. Despite the fact that the employment market is competitive for unemployed job seekers those who are employed and have the skills you need will be reluctant to leave the comfort of their existing employer unless it is worth their while, it is advisable that you offer a competitive salary to attract the right employees more effectively.
Present challenges and learning opportunities
Top performers will resist taking a job that does not offer development opportunities or cultivates a good learning experience and this should be presented to potential candidates in the job specification to attract interest in your role. Without this form of enticement it is difficult for the candidate to understand why they should leave their current employer. If they can see that the job you offer presents ongoing challenges and learning opportunities that will enhance their knowledge and experience, it is more likely that you will fill your vacancy quicker.
Provide clear job descriptions
Potential Candidates like to know what is expected of them before they will consider applying for a role, by providing a detailed job description you will be clear with the responsibilities and duties you assign for the position. Ambiguous job responsibilities can put potential candidates off pursuing roles that they would be ideally suited to as they don’t really understand what the job entails.
Sell the Benefits
Ensure that the benefits of working for your company are explained such as travel, corporate memberships, flexible working, and dress down Friday etc. In addition don’t forget to include benefits such as clients your employees will be working with, technology that they will use and methodologies that may help them do their work more effectively or could be a development curve for them.
