Once a candidate has done a few interviews it becomes very easy to tell the interviewer what they want to hear. The best approach is for interviewers to ask candidates about past experiences or situational examples.
Questions asked such as, 'Are you a team player?, 'Why do you want this job?', 'What are your strengths and weaknesses?' simply tests the candidate's ability to sound persuasive and sincere. This does not mean they shouldn't be asked, but by asking difficult questions you can see how they react under pressure.
Five killer questions asked at interviews:
1. Would you ever lie to get a job?
2. What were you hoping we wouldn't ask you?
3. Name five members of the cabinet.
4. Tell me a joke.
5. If you were shopping and you came across a puddle of Olive Oil and it's smashed glass container across the aisle what would you do?
i. Start to clear it up
ii. Stay there and send someone else to find a member of staff
iii. Go and find a member of staff yourself
iv. Ignore it and move on
The correct answer is (ii) as they will not be putting themselves in danger and will be able to alert others that the situation is in hand.
The reason (i) is wrong is because, by starting to clear it up, they would be putting themselves in danger of cutting themselves on the glass.
The reason (iv) is wrong is because they could put someone else in danger
And (iv) is showing no consideration for the danger that may be caused to others.
